The Growth Mindset is constantly learning, constantly active, constantly seeking opportunities and positive outcomes.  The Attitude of Grateful is the foundation of Growth and it requires us, every now and then, to Pause & Reflect.

Wise beyond his years, Ferris Beuller learned to stop and smell the roses.  In our case, we Pause & Reflect to allow ourselves to re-energize, ignite our passion, and drop the dead weight that is holding us back.  

DIFFERENCE: 10 Steps to Pause & Reflect

Disconnect.  If you are going to pause, then pause.  Disconnect email, phones, headset, airpods, everything that distracts you, catches your attention, and does not need it.

Isolate.  The best way to Pause is to Isolate yourself.  Shut the door to your office. Take a walk.  Ride a bike.  Step back and enjoy the silence.

Focus.  Open your mental filing cabinet and review what has been good and positive, what has been detracting or consuming your attention, and does not deserve it. 

Fantasize.  Yes – people fantasize all the time.  Fantasizing is to “indulge in daydreaming about something desired”  or “imagine something that one wants to happen”.  When you fantasize, your mind is looking for something exceptional, something powerful and energizing.  Fantasizing enables you to see who you are and who you want to be and how to get there.

Eject.  You have identified what is not helping you and where you want to be.  Now it is time to Eject that weight and recommit to building the you that you want to be.  

Resolve.  Resolve to act, the dead weight is now behind you, don’t dwell on it, don’t think of it, move on.  Resolve to pick up on the path you want to go on and the place it is taking you.

Encourage.  Activate your Self Talk and Encourage yourself to move forward.  Reinforce your skills, reinforce your passion, reinforce your positive experiences, and transform negative experiences into positive outcomes.

Next Step.  Identify the Next Step.  You have dropped the dead weight, you have selected the path forward, you have encouraged yourself and are full of positive energy.  Select the Next Step and resolve to do that step today.  Small every day wins build courage and confidence to grow.

Conclude.  There is much to be said for concluding many things.  We often carry bits of experiences or beliefs or attitudes that do not help us.  Conclude them now.  Be conscious of your effort to leave things behind you do not need nor want and focus on the things you do. Use your Self Talk, “I am done with this…. Now.  It’s time to move one.”

Emerge. The Pause is done.  The Reflection is done.  The Deadweight is gone.  The Resolve is set.  The Next Step is set. Emerge and execute the Next Step.   

 

Pause & Reflect in the Growth Mindset makes the DIFFERENCE between exceptional performance and dwelling on things that are irrelevant, unnecessary, and holding you back.  The Habit of Pause & Reflect is your toolkit to freeing your mind to move forward and commit to growth.
